I totally agree with Szuting.
I will get marry in the US and the wedding expense cannot cover from" red evenlop". But in my mind, the wedding is once of life time, so I will have a simple wedding than Taiwaness way and give our parents, friends and relatives good memory.
I have a question. You must have invided some Americans, right?! What will you explain "red evenlop" to them? Do you think they will pay? or just give you gifts?
No.. The American friends will give me gift which I registered on Target and Macys. Maybe Chinese friends will pick up the gift online too. Actually, the American friends in BayArea know Chinese tradition, but they still prefer give us gift.
Well... have to grab something to eat... gee... I am last one who leave the office again!!! >_<~
I just tell my guests that I won't have a gift registry and I would appreciate if they give me cash gift instead. I also teach them what "red lucky money" is since it is now a very well known concept to North Americans. Actually, not only Chinese but also more and more North Americans are accepting cash as wedding gift nowadays.. I guess it is more efficient. By all means, if you take a look at the items available for gift registry, most of them are beddings, chinas, and kitchen wares, most of which you might already have in your apartment. Why the hassle to get new ones?????
Thanks for your reply (Sorry My English typing is still faster.).
I am also planing my wedding. I don't really want to spend too much money on the wedding here, because most of my friends are in TW and they will attend another one held in TW. I agreed with Ya Ya. Those gifts are really not what I want. What I want is a small wedding with a small cost. However, I am at the east coast and my bf's family is from a SMALL town, so they won't understand the culture of "red evenlop". He has warmed me that his family member will only give around $10 in the evenlop if I ask that way (because they are poor 鄉下人). Plus I am tired of all kind of planing things here.
可是話又說回來, 我好想在Mountain Lake 辦我的婚禮. 記得熱舞十七吧!! 就是在那裡拍的......
