Virgins Are on the Rise
There are more 20-something virgins now than there were a decade ago, according to a recent U.S. survey. The Department of Health and Human Services found that there's been a 22 per cent increase in the number of virgins between the ages of 15 to 24 Adult Sex Trend.

 

The First Time is Getting Better
Progress is definitely being made in the 'losing it' department. Researchers at the University of Illinois determined that both men and women are enjoying their first time significantly more than their parents would have 20 and 30 years ago. Today, men experience less anxiety about their first time and women experience fewer incidences of shame, according to their findings.

 

Celebs Are Coming Out As Late Bloomers
Tina Fey was an "old virgin". The 30 Rock star hasn't only made wearing glasses 247 sexy, she's also made being a late bloomer cool. In an interview with David Letterman in 2009, the Baby Mama actress revealed she lost her virginity at 24 to her now-husband. Quipped Tina on her virgin-status: "I couldn't give it away."

Brazilian supermodel Adriana Lima single-handedly dispelled the myth of the homely older virgin when the then 26-year-old told GQ she was saving herself for marriage in 2006. FYI: She wed basketball player Marko Jarić when she was 27.

 

Meet Ellie Kolstakis, 21-year-old virgin hellbent on finally having sex for the first time and the protagonist of British journalist Radhika Sanghani's debut novel, Virgin, to be released in August. Only two years older than her protagonist, Sanghani is aware of the pressure teens and young adults feel to gain sexual experience, especially given idealized representations that abound in pop culture.

 

"Every time you read about virginity it's in a really idealized way ... but I do think it misses out on so much---the actual details and the what happens and how it makes people feel and I think that's what I wanted to come across in Virgin."

 

The message she hopes the virginity trend will hammer home: virginity is yours to do with as you see fit. "That's the message I would love people to take away, that losing your virginity is only for you and it doesn't have to be about what your friends at uni think, or more controversially, what your parents think."
